Unexpected Tears

An event took place today, I just happened to be there. Right place, right time. For that I am grateful. Because I heard stories and I learned new information. What brought tears, anger, and a reminder.

Let me tell you a story, a local woman. Her name won't be shared but the story she gave everyone in that room today, I will share with you.

She was pulled over for speeding. And now she wears an ankle monitor with no guarantee she will get to stay home and uncertainty for the next months to come. Not because she was speeding though, because the color of her skin. She was held in jail, prevented from using the bathroom, lost a tooth, and been through more than she should have been. Because of the color of her skin. Thank God it was only jail though (a sad sentence to even have to utter) because her life was at risk, unfortunately it still is. Along this process she was used and then locked away from all of her belongings. I could never share her story as well as she did though. Because it is her story to tell. I am only relaying pieces.

This is her home. Her and her family have lived here for years, but because racism exists she has gone through torment. I will say it again. Because, the color of her skin.

More stories were shared, the rampant tales of the three letter corporation of shame at it's problematic excuses again. Targeting anyone with a "unique" name and color.

Lives lost. Shame upon a nation built upon the bodies and homes of they themselves ruined. Have the audacity to create more hatred, lies, division, the likes. You name it.

Speak up for justice. We must rise for humanity. Feel each story as if it was the lives of our own.

Reach out and join a local group aiding those being targeted by agents and local law enforcement. This isn't just about people "without documents". We live on stolen land, this land doesn't belong to any of those trying to kick others out of it.

Get resources to share with your local neighbors about what to say if someone comes to their door. Record everything, document everything.

Right now we are living in that time of "If I was around in that time I would have done what I could to help". Maybe those words sound familiar or something similar during specific lessons of history class.

Whatever the case, speak up for humanity. Everyone has a right. Don't listen to lies. Read, watch, learn, feel, listen. You are missing something and are a part of something bigger than what the media and higher people of status choose to deceive you with.
